Invoice and tax-invoice basics
An invoice becomes a tax invoice when it carries the details the ATO requires. For a taxable sale under $1,000 that is seven things: it is marked as a tax invoice, your identity, your ABN, the date, a description with quantity and price, the GST amount (or "Total price includes GST" when GST is exactly one-eleventh), and the extent each item is taxable. For sales of $1,000 or more you also show the buyer’s identity or ABN. Get this right and your clients can claim GST cleanly.

What makes an invoice a tax invoice?

What is the difference between a quote and an invoice?
A quote is a firm price you offer before the work; an invoice is the request for payment during or after it. Many tradies send a quote to win the job, then invoice against it (often a deposit up front and the balance on completion).
What are standard tradie payment terms?
Common terms are a deposit on acceptance and the balance on completion, or 7 to 14 days from invoice for larger jobs. The right terms protect your cash flow; state them on the quote so there are no surprises.
